About
Founded in 1957, the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) provides prevention, outpatient treatment, and recovery support services for individuals and families affected by substance use.
In 1987, SACADA introduced youth prevention programs to educate children about addiction as a preventable disease and to help youth understand they are not responsible for a loved one’s substance use disorder. These evidence-based programs serve children across Bexar and surrounding counties at no cost to participants.
SACADA’s Outpatient Treatment Services support youth and adults through individualized and group counseling, substance use education, relapse prevention, and family engagement. Services are tailored to meet each client’s needs and promote long-term recovery, healthy coping skills, and positive behavioral change.
Additional services include:
• Circles of San Antonio Community Coalition (Bexar County): Works to create drug-free communities by building partnerships, implementing community-level prevention strategies, and increasing awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and non-medical prescription drug use.
• Court-Mandated and Educational Classes: SACADA offers Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation-certified courses, including Drinking While Intoxicated (DWI – 1st Offense) and Minor in Possession (MIP), as well as Marijuana Awareness and Alcohol and Drug Awareness courses.
• Presentations and Trainings: Free educational presentations and trainings on substance use trends and prevention for professionals, youth, clergy, and educators.
• Assessment and Referrals: Comprehensive adult drug and alcohol assessments for in-state and out-of-state requests, recognized by the Texas Board of Law Examiners.
